How Remote Argentinian Schools Got Solar Power
The province of Corrientes, in Argentina, is accomplishing the goal of bringing solar power to faraway schools. On July, we told you about this proyect but in Catamarca province.
Last year the provincial government announced the Renewable Energies Program for Rural Sectors and started to placed solar panels on schools. We told you about it here.
Today in Corrientes 75 out of 85 rural schools already have solar energy that is used to power lights, fans, televisions, computers and other equipment.
The solar panels that have been installed are between 400 watts and 1600 watts, giving two watts per hour and 7 watts per hour respectively. Besides the schools also count with the possibility to storage energy for five days in case there is no sunlight. But there at Corrientes, there is always sun.
Martín Sáenz, from the Direction of infrastructure of the Ministry of Education, has recently announced that by September the 85 rural schools will count with solar power. And once the 85 schools have been powered they will begin to raise the installed power of every schools.
