Australia To Restrict Coastal Development Due to Global Warming
Climate change must be factored into all new planning to safeguard coastal developments against sea level rise, flood and other disasters or effects on the environment, the State Government of Victoria in Australia has decided.
Earlier this year, significant coastal property was found to be exposed to risk. Now, housing sprawl along coastal strips must be curtailed and new residential developments along canals banned under the State Government’s new coastal planning strategy. In September The Sydney Moring Herald had noted that:“One general insurer has estimated that the value of coastal property in Australia at risk to rising sea levels and erosion is between $50 billion and $150 billion.”

Heeding warnings from climate change experts, the Government has ruled that new developments must assume at least the most conservative estimates and prepare for sea level rise.
The new law follows the minimum sea-level risk mitigation recommended by insurers consulted in the planning.
The British insurer Lloyds of London had warned earlier this year that worldwide, without adaptation, insurance losses from coastal flooding for high-risk properties could double by 2030.
”With over half the world’s population expected to live within 100 kilometres of the coastline in 25 years’ time, it is imperative that we address this risk now by starting to adapt.
The world cannot insure its way out of climate change, but the insurance industry can play a key role in the fight against it by encouraging adaptation. If this doesn’t happen, insurance will become more expensive and less available.”
The new law will not be retroactive, but take effect on Monday.

Interesting - I checked the ocean levels at Fort Denison Sydney for the past 45 years. See level has been rising for this whole period (as it’s done for the past 20,000 years). It’s slowed down in the past 25 years, with a rate of 0.6mm per year - much lower than the predicted 1.8mm/year. It’s unchanged for the past 2 years. Sorry, but this doesn’t fit in with climate change - sea levels aren’t doing anything different to what they’ve always done. Don’t blame anthropogenic global warming. There’s been no global warming for the past 11 years. Prepare for higher sea levels, but only because that’s what they’ve been doing since long before we built houses.
There is no observational data to show that sea level along the Victorian coast has varied in recent decades other than temporary changes brought about by El Nino and La Nina events.
The Coastal Strategy comments on climate change seek only to deflect attention away from real planning issues.
Australia is a Radiant Resource Rich country and unfortunately, like the U.S.A. is still knee-deep in Arab and OPEC clownshit! They too, will be buying gas guzzlers from GM China once GM America dumps its more expensive workers on the government doles and closes American operations! Never suggest to the assholes they have more radiant energy, perpetual radiant energy, than burning Arab oil can produce before running out! Don’t tell the fisty jerk-offs they can power their whole country on Solar energy, and most of all, never let them guess they don’t really know it all! You will be met with an endless barrage of cliches, forgone conclusions, 18th century reasoning, astounding ignorance, denial, unfounded facts, confused logic and circular thinking! Just like the American twits!
