Bull Tormented and Tortured to Death During Annual Festival

Black Bull

The Toro de la Vega festival is an annual event held each year in Tordesillas, Spain.  Like many festivals, crowds of people look forward to the event and line the streets.  But unlike many fests held around the world, this event is known for one particular tradition.

El Toro de la Vega

Each September, a young bull is released then chased through the streets by hundreds of people on foot and on horseback.  As the bull runs for his life, he is stabbed with spears and darts.  Severely injured and bleeding, his testicles and tail are cut off, often while he is still alive.   The person who finally kills him is “awarded” a medal and a special iron spear.

Moscatel will be the bull at this year’s event, held on September 15th.   The Party Animal Abuse Against Bullfighting organization is holding a protest condemning the gruesome event, on September 13th.  PETA also has information regarding the event.

  1. Spain is the worse country against animal welfare. They dont respect anything. We must boycot Spain.

  2. My dictionary defines “sadism” as “obtaining pleasure from inflicting or watching cruelty” - and what better befits that description than the hideous torture of animals in Spain.

  3. WHY DO THIS SORT OF THING ????
THERE GOT TO BE A MUCH HUMANE & BETTER “GAME” !!!
    SAD….REALLY SAD….

  4. I guess it makes them feel like big tough men…pathetic. I will not be bothering to visit spain when I go to Europe. This truly disgusts me.

Thanks, Jace, for raising awareness of this sort of thing. People need to know.

  5. These participants are sick to enjoy such EVIL acts. Spain is not a civilised or humane country. What is the Catholic church doing to end these atrocities? Not much it seems-as the torture of defenceless animals continues.

I pray and hope that all the humane and ethical Spaniards who are protesting against these barbarous acts of cruelty can successfully stop the next horrible act of ritual torture- that of Moscatel- and shame overseas tourists who encourage these tragic events.

Spain should be avoided as a tourist destination and kicked out of the EU until it grows a conscience!

  6. “Sofia Goncalves”, please do NOT treat every spanish person as if they all were the same. Because of your poor (if any) understanding of the spanish language you couldn’t understand the TITLE of that video.

I’ll show you, as I’m spanish and I understand (and support) it:

76% SPANISH PEOPLE AGAINST TORO DE LA VEGA

Not every spanish people like this horrible stuff. In fact, most non elder people HATE it.

Please measure your words carefully before throwing bullshit (”let’s boycot Spain”) about something you have NO IDEA about. We all are NOT the same.

  7. I don’t understand why are some of you asking for such things as boycot to Spain, avoiding Spain as tourist destination… All that makes no sense.

What you have to fight against is not Spain itself, is the people who still support this horrible stuff. I’m spanish and like a lot of people (vast majority, by the way) I do NOT support this kind of “festivals”.

A lot of Spanish people hate this, I don’t know why you are treating us all like if we were just the same.

Also, please measure your words carefully when saying things like “We must boycot Spain”, “Spain should be avoided as a tourist destination”, “Spain is not a civilised or humane country”.

As I read that I feel insulted, just because a few savage people catch media attention, the majority of my country don’t have to be like that.

Think about it. Spain is not just those few people.

  8. Sorry oMega. I realise that a lot of Spanish people do not condone this sort of thing and I have absolutely nothing against Spanish people. Maybe I should have worded my post more carefully.

Unfortunately, the only way (that I can think of from here in Australia) to encourage the Spanish Government to legislate against this sort of activity is to hit them where it hurts - the tourism dollars. They simply don’t listen to “bleeding hearts” like us because their conscience tells them to. If the “vast majority” truly hates this festival then would the government not listen to them for fear of losing the next election to a party that promises to do so?

I already support the activities of groups such as PETA and the RSPCA here in Australia who do their part to encourage the banning of animal cruelty and raise awareness in all countries (not just Spain)…every little bit counts.

  9. [...] Bull tormented and tortured to dead in spanish festival, disturbing and horrible stuff. [...]

  10. UNBELIEVEABLE CRUELTY AS ENTERTAINMENT FOR FAMILIES IN TORDESILLA. I saw the video on 20Minutos.es and was so disgusted with this outrageous, cruel and sadistic custom.
