10 Beach 1

According to the editors of Woman’s Day magazine, these — in no particular order — are the top 10 beaches in America. If you disagree with their selection, let us know in the comments section below or send us your own beach review. Just click the Eco-travelogue link at the top of the page.

1. Clearwater Beach, Florida
On the Gulf of Mexico, this beach boasts some of the softest sand in Florida. Fun activities include covered playgrounds, and a nightly sunset festival with vendors and street performers.

2. Coronado Beach, California
This beach near San Diego gets high marks for its clean sand and gentle waves. You’ll also be close to the San Diego Zoo and Sea World.

3. Fort De Soto Park, Florida
Just south of St. Petersburg, this unspoiled county park has pretty beaches and tons of birds. On-site fun includes a historical fort, kayaking, biking, fishing, and a dog beach.

4.  Fort Lauderdale Beach, Florida
For great waves, and fabulous outdoor restaurants, hit Fort Lauderdale Beach. When you’ve had enough of the sun, check out an exhibit or performance in the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District.

5. Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
This island is a top pick for its beaches and biking trails. While you’re in the area visit the lighthouse, or spend a day sailing.

6. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Sunny and sandy—what’s not to love with this 60-mile beach on the Atlantic Ocean? Besides the beach, this is the place to be for shopping, golf and fishing.

7. Ocean City, Maryland
Families love this seaside town for fun in the sun. In addition to the boardwalk, there are fun attractions like mini-golf and water parks.

8. Santa Barbara East Beach, California
This sunny locale is perfect for a day at the beach—and a wine–tasting side trip. Great family activities include sailing, fishing and kayaking.

9. South Beach, Florida
This popular spot in Miami Beach, FL is always hopping—and you can’t beat the clear blue water. When you need a break from the sun, check out the Art Deco architecture in the area, or go shopping in the open-air Lincoln Road Mall.

10. South Padre Island, Texas
This Texas favorite is known for its pretty beaches and outdoor activities. From dolphin-watching to mini golf, there are plenty of fun things to do–including October’s sand castle-building contest.

Naturally, people may quibble with these choices. It’s fair to say, particularly during these winter months, that the best beach in America is the one you’re on!
