Biking Cape Cod And The Islands

Cape Bike 3

Cape Cod has a number of great bike trails, ranging from very easy to quite challenging. The route alongside the Cape Cod ship canal is completely level and gives the rider the unique opportunity of riding alongside commercial ships just a few yards away. The Cape Cod rail trail takes you through piney woods from Fort Hill on the ocean side to picturesque Rock Harbor on the Bay side. Be sure to visit the small eatery next to the harbor. They make the best lobster roll on the planet!

Race Point at the tip of The Cape is where you will find a challenging paved bike path that meanders up and down through the dunes all the way to neighboring Truro, 10 miles away. Once your ride is done, bike on in to Provincetown to enjoy this “Key West of the North” with its iconic architecture and quirky lifestyle.

The greatest gift John F. Kennedy ever gave America is the Cape Cod National Seashore. 40 miles of protected oceanside beaches, wild cranberry bogs, kettle ponds, and forests give every visitor a glimpse of the old Cape. Close your eyes and you can almost imagine what the Pilgrims saw when they first came ashore 350 years ago.

Great Freedom Adventures specializes in bicycle tours throughout New England and New York. They are offering a 6 day  Captivating Cape Cod and Islands Vacation Bike Tour this summer that not only includes the best cycling on Cape Cod but also on the offshore islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.

The Vineyard, as it is known to locals, is home to three separate communities, each with its own distinctive character. Nantucket was the center of America’s whaling trade during the time when sailing ships from around the world filled the harbor. Be sure to visit the Nantucket Whaling Museum to learn more about this important era in American History.

“We are excited to share this new tour encompassing our favorite parts of Cape Cod and the Islands in the most engaging and enjoyable way possible – from the seat of a bicycle!” says Jeanne Rummel, founder of Great Freedom Adventures. The all inclusive tours will be offered three times this summer starting on June 14, July 12 and August 13 and are priced at $2595 per person, double occupancy.

You don’t need to join a tour to enjoy biking on The Cape, though. The trails are available year round and experienced Cape-goers know that visiting the Cape before or after the bustle of tourist season is the best way to enjoy its charms.
