With the addition of The Upper Chipola River Paddling Trail, there are now 51 kayak trails in the State of Florida catering to those who love to be out and about in nature and maybe do a little fishing as well. According to Panhandle.com, the trail was dedicated oin Decmeber 13, 2014 and makes the third kayak trail in Jackson County with many more planned or in process. The county is situated about 35 miles northwest of Tallahassee and is easy accessible from Interstate 10.
The four and a half mile trail starts at Christoff Landing in Marianna, the county seat, and connects all the way to the Florida Caverns State Park. The county and state park staffs have worked on the project for about a year, clearing log jams and preparing for the grand opening. Chuck Hatcher, parks director for the county, says, “You have the natural springs, the beautiful rivers. We are blessed with all the freshwater so we are excited to have this.”
The Florida Panhandle is a mecca for eco-tourist with its array of freshwater rivers and lakes, and oceanfront habitat along the Gulf of Mexico.
