Walking And Biking Tours Of Houston

HoustonOne of the oldest cities in Texas, Houston has over 215 homes and buildings on the National Historic Register of Historic Places. The Architecture Center Houston (ArCH) offers residents and visitors alike a variety of walking and bicycle tours that showcase the city’s diverse architectural and cultural history. Tours usually cost $10.00.

On January 31, ArCH is hosting a two hour bicycle tour of the Houston Heights area, which is Houston’s first mixed use neighborhood and home to 120 National Register sites. It will explore the original foot print of the Heights, and a variety of building types that are historic and original to the area.

In addition, more recent examples of contemporary architecture will be visited and there will be a discussion about how these fit into the context of the neighborhood. For out of towners, bicycles can be rented from Houston B-Cycle.

Can’t make it to Houston in time? Don’t fret. The tour will be presented again on March 28. And ArCH offers tours all year long, including a Museum District walking tour on February 28 and an Urban Art tour on March 7. Check the ArCH website for information about tours taking place whenever your travel plans bring you to Houston.

See you there!
