Eating Your Way through Super Bowl Weekend in Phoenix

SB 3OK. So you’re in Phoenix for the Super Bowl. You have your ticket. You have your hotel room. You have your rental car. What’s next on your To Do list? It’s time to eat, of course! That means knowing where to dine in the desert alongside all the beautiful people like yourself.

SB 2Metro Phoenix is offering dozens of Super Bowl-themed food and drink specials. Try some Mexican and American-style bar food, such as homemade chilaquiles. There are so many varieties of wings to sample and they’re everywhere you go in Phoenix — on rooftop restaurant patios, beneath walls of flat screen televisions, or within cocktail garden walls. You can also chose between burgers, brats, or brunch, depending on your mood.  The Phoenix Public Market features everything from local veggies to BBQ and will be in operation all day Saturday.

If nibbling as you walk the streets of Phoenix is more your thing, you might want to grab a burger from one of the food truck vendors who expect to triple their business this weekend. Or you could go sports bar hopping.  Santizi Brothers has a fabulous Meatza Pizza. Blue 32 is known for their onion rings. Coach & Willie’s helps travelers from the East Coast feel right at home with their lobster bisque. CK’s Tavern and Grill has a hearty Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich.  And that’s just the beginning.

Once you have a full stomach, you’ll want to rub elbows with other Super Bowl revelers.  Twelve Phoenix city blocks will be transformed into a pedestrian space called Super Bowl Central, featuring live concerts by a number of performers and Phoenix-area cultural groups. Figures from the sports world will be on hand for photographs and to sign autographs. Maybe fun loving Coach Belichik will put in an appearance! Concerts and fireworks will take place each night after sunset.

According to Chris Taubb of USA Today, kick-off parties, fan festivals, and charity events will happen in Scottsdale, Glendale, and Phoenix.  Look for former athletes like Simeon Rice; performers Zac Brown Band, Lil John, and Nelly; supermodels Behati Prinsloo and Lily Aldridge; and dozens of Playmates will all be part of the star-studded entertainment.

Phoenix, with its warm winter climate and and hiking on Camelback Mountain, is a far cry from snowy New England for Patriots fans or drizzly Seattle for Seahawks fans. And, anyways, who said the Super Bowl is for football fans only? It’s Super Bowl weekend. Let’s eat!
